EFCC North Zone recovered N199.5m in 10 months

The North East Zonal Head of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Maiduguri, Borno State, Ibrahim Bappa on Thursday, October 20, disclosed that a sum of N196, 670.000.00 (One Hundred and Ninety-Six Million, Six Hundred and Seventy Thousand Naira) had been recovered by the anti-graft agency in the zone.

He added that another sum of N2.8million had also been recovered from individuals as a result of petitions received and acted on. Bappa made this disclosure at the zone's media briefing in Maiduguri. According to him, the Maiduguri zonal office which was commissioned on the 22nd March, 2010 was closed as a result of insurgency in the North East which ravaged and stalled all activities in that part of the country.

"The resumption of its operations in the area came as a priority under the leadership of the current acting Chairman, Ibrahim Mustapha Magu, who is poised to drive the vision, mission, and objectives of EFCC to greater height. Since its resumption of activities, the EFCC, has recorded remarkable achievement in the area of monetary recoveries," said Bappa.

The Zonal Head warned members of the public to shun all acts of corruption or be prepared to face the wrath of the law as the Commission will spare nobody.
Bappa further affirmed the resolve of the Commission to check corruption in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, camps in the North East.

"We will ensure that there is transparency, accountability and judicious use of the money allocated to the IDP camps in Maiduguri and elsewhere. We have started gathering intelligence after which culprits behind the sufferings in the people will be invited", he disclosed.
